Die Zirbe – Ausstellung St. Jakob i. Def.
The largest pine forest of the Eastern Alps is topic of this exhibition. It encourages to touch, play, explore, visit the pine forest in the national park Hohe Tauern, best in the company of a park-ranger.
Obersee und Staller Sattel
The “Staller Sattel” is a mountain pass at 2.052 m above sea level, which connects the “Defreggental” valley and the South Tyrolian Antholzertal” valley. Traffic light controlled operating time for the Italian side. Opened May to November.

Long-distance hikes along free-flowing glacial streams with views over a fabulous sea of peaks to the highest mountains in Austria, always in close contact with eternal ice, pristine alpine pastures, unique mountain meadows.
Wassermythos Ochsenlacke
High up in the Defereggental live remarkable beings. Five animal characters invite you to playfully learn more about the guardians of the water. From the middle station, an easy hiking trail leads directly to the water myth Ochsenlacke.
Wildtierbeobachtungsturm Oberhaus
The largest closed pine forest in the Eastern Alps is best explored on the nature and culture trail. The 22-metre-high wildlife observation tower Oberhaus offers a special nature experience.
Alpe Stalle 1.714 m
Bruno, the innkeeper, welcomes you to the Alpe Stalle. At the Alpe Stalle you can enjoy Tyrolean delicacies such as Schlipfkrapfen, Tyrolean or Kasknödl, apple and curd strudel and much more. The rustic hut is open in summer and winter. In winter there is also a 2.5 km long illuminated family toboggan run.
Alpengasthof Pichler
The inn is a heavenly destination in summer and in winter. It is located at the sunny plateau 1.500 m above sea level in the national park. Specialities made from local products are offered and the sommelier Manuel helps with your wine selection. The south side of the house provides a gorgeous sun terrace with a children’s playground.
Der Osttiroler Senf-Philosoph
Bernd Troger has been producing mustard in Defereggental since 2010. He has received several awards for this – most recently in the summer of 2022 with the Great Taste Awards in London, one of the highest honours in the international food industry. There are now over 20 flavours, ranging from fruity-sweet to classic-rustic. Troger’s recipes are top secret. Mustard is a philosophy for Bernd Troger.
Alpinhotel Jesacherhof
The kitchen of the hotel-restaurant “Jakobi-Stuben” from the Jesacherhof in St. Jakob has been rewarded by Falstaff, A la Carte and Gault Millau. Chef de cuisine Sandro Zanato and his team cook using fresh, local and seasonal products. The sommelier Christian Jesacher junior indulges with noble wines from the wine cellar.
